I’m done for the night. That was fun! That movie is SO GREAT. damn. There are a lot of characters I didn’t get to draw—not the least of which the Khan and Orlando as a woman—but I took some screen shots so I can go back and do some more sketching later. Good night~

Liz and I had two work days in a row this week, and we now have storyboards for five more pages of Foundling, which brings us to the end of chapter one! It was so nice to sit and work with her for a few hours and blast through those sketches.

Tonight I have set aside especially for watching Orlando and drawing Tilda Swinton at her gender-bending best (in that category, though, this David Bowie vid is tied with Orlando for first place). Perhaps I will do some liveblogging of my sketches? y/n?*

*not a real question. I’m going to do it.

Friends and Tumblr followers! I have decided to create *drumroll* A SECOND TUMBLR.

I’ve been posting a lot of stuff that isn’t related to my art, or even art in general, and the number one goal of this blog was to put my art on the internet and get inspiration from other artists. I really want it to stay that way, so I’m making another one, which is where I will put all my posts and reblogs about:

feminism!
LOTS of feminism
trans* issues
gender-related everything
maybe fashion sometimes, if it pertains to the issues above
radical politics
examinations of racism, classism, sexism, misogyny (including transmisogyny), colonialism, cultural erasure
body-positivity, including sexy pictures!

…that list makes it look like I am super smart and have a lot to say about those issues. I don’t, really, yet. I feel really REALLY strongly about all of them, but in an extremely emotional/wrathful, inarticulate way. Maybe having a place to put all those thoughts will help with that.

SO! If you want to follow such a blog, it is here at fine-for-now.tumblr.com. (As your spidey senses are probably telling you, that name is temporary.) I’m going to clean up this blog a bit and take down some things I’ve posted or reblogged that don’t pertain to art.

I got some great advice from a childrens illustrator, one tiny bit of which was to fill my portfolio with the type of work I want to be doing. Also to categorize more aggressively (i.e., instead of just “Illustration”, childrens illustration, scientific illustration, illustration for publication, etc.) Go check it out!

I think the next step should be to actually have separate portfolios for all those categories ~~but I’m not sure I’ve actually done enough work to fill them up.~~ What? Yes I totally have. Stop making excuses.

BREAKING: Shooting in Oberlin

Oberlin Police are currently investigating a shooting that sent a total of 3 victims to the hospital. Reports of two victims with wounds to the legs and one victim with a gunshot to the head. All victims were speaking with medics as they took them to awaiting ambulances.

One man sits in the back of a Police car after Officers and a K9 from the Sheriff’s Department chased him through the neighborhood according to witnesses.

Police now have a home on West College Street blocked off with tape and are interviewing witnesses.

I’ve created these flyers for a school activist project where I bring more attention to the women in history that have been forgotten or ignored. This blog will be an extension of those flyers where I post longer biographies of these women and other bad-ass women like them. Too often women’s achievements have been pushed aside, either by others in their lives, or else by the historians who choose to ignore them. I was out of town this weekend (vacationing in New Mexico with my parents, yay!), so I missed out on Lucy Knisley’s stop in Seattle (boo!) on her tour for her new book, Relish. But when I went to work my buddy Jasmine not only bought me the book but GOT IT SIGNED for me. So this is for Jasmine.

I usually work on images in RGB, and then if the client needs a CMYK image I’ll just change the mode at the end.
Never post a CMYK image online though—CMYK is meant for printers, not browsers. That means that many browsers have a hard time actually reading what the CMYK colors mean, which is why the colors looked all crazy when you posted it! Just switch it back to RGB before you make a post.

RGB includes some colors that CMYK does not—typically super bright, saturated colors that can show up on your computer screen, but can’t actually be printed with ink colors. The nice thing about Photoshop is that you can just do Command-Y (edit: or Control-Y for PCs), which will toggle a CMYK proofing view on and off so you can preview the color differences as you work!
